The Houston Texans are preparing for a preseason matchup with the Las Vegas Raiders, scheduled for August 20, as they deal with significant roster challenges. The recent injury to wide receiver Jayden Higgins, who suffered a torn ACL, will keep him out for the entire season, impacting the team's offensive strategy.
Despite these setbacks, quarterback C.J. Stroud is expected to participate, likely playing a few series, potentially up to 25 plays. The Texans plan to start their first-string offensive line, while the first-team defense will not take the field.
Stroud will rely on wide receiver Nico Collins, who had an impressive previous season, recording 71 catches for 1,117 yards and six touchdowns. Other players, such as Tank Dell, Xavier Hutchinson, and Jaylin Noel, will need to contribute in Higgins' absence. Dell, who missed the last season due to injury, had previously formed a strong connection with Stroud.
Noel was selected in the draft shortly after Higgins and was college teammates with him at Iowa State.
As the Texans work to solidify their offensive game plan, the loss of key players poses challenges as they look ahead to the upcoming season.
