The Gunter Tigers football program is preparing for the 2026 season with a focus on maintaining established traditions and adapting to a new competitive classification. Head coach Jordan Gill, who has been part of the organization since 2019, emphasized that the team’s primary goal is to uphold the reputation associated with their uniform.
Gill noted that the culture within the program remains consistent as he enters his second year leading the squad. He expressed gratitude for the support staff, stating that the work of others makes his role enjoyable and manageable. The Tigers enter the season with high expectations after reaching the state semifinals in Gill’s first year. The program has secured five state championships since 2016.
Senior offensive tackle Caleb Siler described a renewed sense of urgency among the players. He argued that mastering daily details leads to larger successes and that the expectation of winning remains unchanged from previous years. Siler indicated that the current roster is responsible for keeping those expectations alive through their actions.
Offensive guard Alex Valenzuela highlighted the role of the senior class in guiding younger teammates. He stated that the older players aim to serve as examples and demonstrate proper conduct for the rest of the team. Valenzuela said the seniors are eager to contribute fully to the group’s efforts this year.
A significant change for 2026 is the team’s move to Class 3A-D1 due to district realignment. Gill acknowledged the shift but expressed excitement about facing familiar opponents. He described the new competition as well-coached and competitive, noting that the style of play will not change despite the classification update.
