Caden Powell, a Waco native and former player at Baylor, is set to return to the team for the 2026-27 season after a recent court injunction in Ohio. Previously playing for Wyoming and Rice, Powell joined Baylor last season and transitioned from a backup center to a starter due to team injuries.
The Baylor Bears will feature a revamped roster this year, with head coach Scott Drew aiming to create a deeper lineup to withstand the season's demands. Powell's return is seen as a significant advantage, adding depth to the team's roster.
While Powell may not start immediately, he is expected to be a key contributor off the bench, leveraging his defensive skills and ability to be a lob threat. The projected depth chart for Baylor includes a mix of experienced and younger players, with Powell joining senior Juslin Bodo Bodo in the center position.
The anticipated starting lineup will have Kayden Mingo at point guard, Dylan Mingo at shooting guard, Isaac Celiscar at small forward, Evan Chatman at power forward, and Juslin Bodo Bodo at center. Powell's experience will be vital for the relatively young team as they prepare for the upcoming season in the Big 12.
