The rural road resurfacing that neighbors west of Gunter agreed to help pay for will cost about $78,500 more than Grayson County first said, and the county is promising to make up whatever donations do not cover.
An order that county commissioners are set to take up Tuesday, Nov. 10, would replace the one commissioners adopted in early October. The new order says the earlier version was written in error: it put the materials cost of chip-and-seal work on Pop Noah Road, Brewer Road and County Road 292 at $165,825, when the estimate is actually $244,351.92.
Where the money stands
Property owners along the roads pledged individual amounts, and the order says donations collected under the first order totaled $157,375. That leaves about $87,000 between gifts received and the corrected estimate.
The county commits to fund the difference between what is collected and the then-current cost estimate, with the exact amount set later through a budget amendment once the total is known.
Donors now have until Friday, Nov. 20, to give. The first order's cutoff was Oct. 30. Money that comes in after Nov. 20 would need another vote before it could be used. If donations plus the county's share still fall short, the court keeps the option to shrink the project, extend the deadline again or take other steps.
What else changed
The new order lists Smith Ranch Road among the roads in the project's scope, in addition to the three named before. The donation acknowledgment form attached to the order still names only Pop Noah, Brewer and County Road 292.
