The general white-tailed deer season in Grayson County starts Saturday, Nov. 7, and runs through Jan. 3, but hunters in the county will still be limited to legal archery equipment and crossbows, according to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department's 2026-27 county regulations. That restriction covers the youth and general seasons.
During the archery-only season, which ends Friday, crossbows are not allowed except for hunters with a physician-certified upper-limb disability.
The same Saturday opens goose season and a two-day duck hunt reserved for young hunters and for veterans and active-duty military.
Deer rules to know
- Bag limit: four deer, with no more than two bucks and no more than two antlerless deer across all seasons combined.
- Antler restrictions: a legal buck has at least one unbranched antler or an inside spread of 13 inches or more. Of the two bucks allowed, only one may have a spread of 13 inches or greater.
- Harvest reporting: every buck or antlerless deer taken in the county must be reported to the department within 24 hours, through the Texas Hunt & Fish app or online.
- Managed properties: where Managed Lands Deer Program tags have been issued, harvest is by those tags only, and hunters using them still need a general hunting license.
- Later dates: a late youth-only season follows from Jan. 4 to 17. The early youth weekend ended Sunday.
Ducks, geese and doves
Waterfowl hunters in Grayson County, which falls in the North Zone for ducks, get a youth weekend and a veterans and active-duty weekend on Nov. 7 and 8.
