Baylor University's athletic director, Doug McNamee, has outlined expectations for head coach Dave Aranda without providing a specific win total for the upcoming seasons. Instead, McNamee emphasized the need to restore momentum and enhance support for the football program.
In comments reported by CBS Sports, McNamee stated that the focus should be on the overall atmosphere surrounding the program rather than just numbers. He stressed the importance of creating a competitive environment within the Big 12 and adapting to the changes brought by name, image, and likeness (NIL) opportunities.
McNamee called for greater commitment from supporters, urging them to attend games and contribute financially to NIL initiatives and scholarships. He remarked on the necessity for increased engagement from the community, saying, "We need greater commitment and investment from our constituency."
Aranda's record at Baylor stands at 36-37, following a successful 2021 season that included a Big 12 championship. However, the team has struggled in recent years, with a 22-28 record and three losing seasons in the last four years.
As Baylor prepares for the upcoming season, which starts on September 5 against Auburn, McNamee has indicated that progress and belief in the program are crucial for securing continued support.
