The Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints have been fined $500,000 each due to a brawl during their joint practice earlier this week. The NFL's penalties highlight the league's focus on sportsmanship, especially during joint practices where unsportsmanlike conduct can result in injuries.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones expressed his intention to appeal the fines, acknowledging the seriousness of the situation. He stated that the actions observed, such as players removing their helmets and engaging in fights, do not represent the teams or the league positively. "That's pretty harsh, I mean, pretty stiff," Jones remarked regarding the fines.
Should the fines remain, Jones indicated he would also impose penalties on the players involved. Linebacker Donovan Ezeiruaku was noted for an incident involving Saints player Taliese Fuaga, while Saints rookie Brock Rechsteiner was involved in multiple confrontations, including a notable altercation with Cowboys cornerback Caelan Carson.
Details on the appeal process and any potential player fines have yet to be released.
