The Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints have been fined $500,000 each by the NFL following a joint practice that was marred by numerous altercations. This decision comes after a session that reportedly saw over ten fights, including pushing and shoving, as well as punches thrown. Notably, Cowboys edge rusher Donovan Ezeiruaku was ejected for throwing a punch, marking his second ejection during training camp.
The latest incident involved tight end Jake Ferguson and linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, triggered by Ferguson's response to a tackle, which led him to throw the ball at Overshown. According to Jon Machota of The Athletic, the situation was quickly defused and did not escalate further. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer expressed his disappointment over the physicality, highlighting that such conflicts detract from essential practice time.
He reiterated the need for focus during training, stating, "Nobody wants this. We want to get the work in."
As the joint practices have concluded, the Cowboys are now gearing up for their preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals. No further information regarding player conditions or strategies was shared.
