Baylor quarterback DJ Lagway is doubtful for Saturday’s matchup with Louisiana Tech while recovering from an ankle injury suffered in the Bears’ 17-16 season-opening loss to Auburn. He remained in that game and threw for 333 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. A wrap was later visible around his ankle.
Lagway did not play against Prairie View A&M, with Nate Bennett taking over at quarterback in Baylor’s 44-3 win. Bennett completed 24 of 36 passes for 314 yards, produced three passing touchdowns and added a rushing score, potentially setting up a second consecutive start against Louisiana Tech.
Baylor coach Dave Aranda said Lagway looked good in Sunday’s practice, and the quarterback was expected to take part in the team’s work during the week. On3 reporter Pete Nakos said Lagway is expected to be available for Baylor’s Big 12 opener against Colorado. The Bears are scheduled to face Louisiana Tech first, while Colorado is set to play Northwestern before traveling to Baylor.
The Colorado-Baylor game is scheduled for 10 a.m. MT on Sept. 26 and could feature Lagway and Colorado quarterback Julian Lewis.
