Trent Brown can now earn up to $2.5 million in 2026 playtime incentives under revised terms with Houston, up from the previous maximum of $1.5 million. Spotrac's Michael Ginnitti detailed the changes Sept. 16 in a post on X.
The contract provides a $500,000 bonus at each of five playing-time thresholds: 50%, 55%, 60%, 65% and 70%. Over The Cap's Troy Chapman previously reported that the additions were placed on top of the original package and did not alter Brown's salary-cap charge or initial cash flow.
Houston re-signed Brown during the 2026 offseason to a one-year, $5.5 million contract. He started seven regular-season games and one playoff game in 2025, when injuries affected the start and finish of his season. Brown stayed with the team through the offseason program and opened Week 1 at right tackle.
The Texans also signed Braden Smith to a two-year, $20 million deal, but Smith went on injured reserve after injuries prevented him from taking the starting job.
Pro Football Focus ranked Brown as Houston's sixth-best pass blocker in Week 1 and its third-highest-rated offensive lineman in that category. Brown, a 2015 seventh-round pick by San Francisco, has played for the 49ers, Bengals and Raiders, starting 104 of 111 career games. He has not started every regular-season game since 2022 and won a Super Bowl with New England in 2018.
