A severe weather event with straight-line winds reaching 80 mph moved through Grayson County on Friday evening, causing significant structural damage in Gunter. The National Weather Service confirmed wind speeds between 70 and 80 mph during the storm that hit around 7:23 p.m.
The town of Gunter, located approximately 55 miles north-northwest of Dallas, experienced collapsed barns, downed trees, and power outages. No human injuries or fatalities were reported in the area.
At Preston Trail Farms, a collapse destroyed one of the facility's barns. Three goats died in the incident. Firefighters utilized extrication tools to free two horses from a separate structure; both animals are expected to survive. The farm’s owners, the Kimbrell family, stated that their cattle, sheep, and other livestock remained unharmed.
Gunter Volunteer Fire Chief Jon Logan coordinated emergency response efforts alongside police and Allegiance Mobile Health crews. The Tioga Volunteer Fire Department provided assistance by handling one of Gunter’s emergency calls during the night-long operation.
Mayor Karen Souther addressed the community via Facebook, noting the extensive destruction while confirming no lives were lost. She credited Logan with leading the coordination efforts.
