A fatal two-vehicle collision occurred on FM 121 in Gunter around noon on Sunday. The crash took place east of FM Spur 121. Emergency responders reported that one individual died at the scene, while four others sustained injuries and were transported to medical facilities.
The driver of an SUV, who was accompanied by three passengers, was airlifted to a hospital. The three passengers in that vehicle were transported via ambulance. In the other vehicle involved, the driver was taken to the hospital with severe injuries. The passenger in that second vehicle did not survive the crash.
The emergency response effort lasted more than five hours. Gunter Volunteer Fire Rescue deployed 11 personnel to the scene, supported by three volunteers from Tioga Volunteer Fire Rescue. Medical transport was provided by two mutual aid ambulances from Van Alstyne Fire and Celina Fire, as well as helicopters from Air Evac and PHI.
Authorities stated that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident. Following the crash response, Gunter Volunteer Fire Rescue personnel also attended to a working grass fire and a residential home that had been struck by lightning.
