Rays Offense Breaks Through in Middle Innings
The Tampa Bay Rays secured a 3-1 victory over the Houston Astros on Saturday, with Tyler Fortes providing the primary offensive spark. Fortes delivered a two-hit performance that included a home run and a later double that proved decisive in the late innings. The win improved Tampa Bay’s record to 52-33, while Houston dropped to 43-47.
The game remained scoreless through the first five innings before both teams found the scoreboard in the sixth. Fortes broke the deadlock with a solo home run to left-center field, measuring 391 feet, giving the Rays a 1-0 lead. The Astros responded immediately in the same frame when Alvarez launched a 427-foot home run to right-center, tying the game at 1-1.
Fortes Adds Second Hit in Seventh
Tampa Bay regained the lead in the seventh inning when Isiah Kiner-Falefa’s teammate, Caminero, hit a 374-foot home run to left field. This blast put the Rays ahead 2-1. The Astros were unable to answer, and the Rays extended their advantage in the eighth inning.
Fortes doubled to center field in the eighth, driving in Walls to make the score 3-1. Houston’s offense was held in check for the remainder of the game, unable to generate any further runs against the Tampa Bay pitching staff.
