Rays Offense Breaks Through in Middle Innings

Tampa Bay regained the lead in the seventh inning when Isiah Kiner-Falefa’s teammate, Caminero, hit a 374-foot home run to left field. This blast put the Rays ahead 2-1. The Astros were unable to answer, and the Rays extended their advantage in the eighth inning.

Fortes doubled to center field in the eighth, driving in Walls to make the score 3-1. Houston’s offense was held in check for the remainder of the game, unable to generate any further runs against the Tampa Bay pitching staff.

Pitching Performance and Decisions

Nick Martinez started for the Rays, pitching 5.1 innings and allowing one earned run on three hits while striking out three batters. He was relieved by Kevin Kelly, who pitched 1.2 perfect innings to earn the win, improving his record to 5-3. Casey Legumina followed with a scoreless inning, recording his fifth save of the season. Bryan Baker closed the game with a perfect inning, striking out one batter to secure his 23rd save.

For the Astros, Spencer Arrighetti started on the mound, pitching 6.0 innings and allowing one earned run on two hits with four strikeouts. Steven Okert pitched one inning, giving up one earned run on one hit with two strikeouts, taking the loss and dropping his record to 1-1. Enyel De Los Santos pitched two innings, allowing one earned run on two hits with two strikeouts.
