Mariners beat Astros 10-5 behind Young's three-run blast

Cole Young drove in four runs and hit a three-run homer as Seattle defeated Houston 10-5. Emerson Hancock earned the win with seven strong innings.

The Seattle Mariners defeated the Houston Astros 10-5 at Daikin Park on Saturday. Cole Young was the standout performer for the visitors, finishing with four runs batted in and a three-run home run that sealed the victory. Emerson Hancock earned the win after pitching seven innings, while Hayden Wesneski took the loss for Houston.

Early Momentum Shifts

The Astros struck first in the bottom of the first inning. Jose Altuve reached on an infield single to shortstop, scoring Yordan Alvarez. That put Houston ahead 1-0. Seattle responded immediately in the top of the second. Young reached on an infield single to the pitcher, allowing J.P. Crawford to score and tying the game at 1-1.

Mariners Take Control

Seattle expanded their lead in the second inning. Luis Robles tripled to right field, scoring Naylor and Young to make it 3-1. Donovan followed with a single to right, bringing in Robles for a 4-1 lead. Houston cut the deficit to 4-2 when Vazquez homered to left field. In the fourth, Donovan singled to left, scoring Young and extending the lead to 5-2.

Late Game Drama

The Astros managed to score two runs in the eighth inning. Paredes homered to left center, scoring Pena. However, Seattle closed the game out in the ninth. Young homered to right field, scoring Rodriguez and Naylor to make it 10-4. Houston added a final run when Walker grounded out to second, allowing Altuve to score. The final score was 10-5.

Pitching Performance

Hancock pitched seven innings, allowing five hits and two earned runs while striking out eight batters and walking two. He was credited with the win. For Houston, Wesneski pitched four innings, giving up seven hits and five earned runs while striking out six. He took the loss. Attendance was 34,664.
