Texas has been recognized as the fourth best state for business in CNBC's 2026 America's Top States for Business report released on July 9, a decline from its previous second-place position. This year, Ohio achieved the top ranking for the first time, followed by North Carolina, Virginia, and Minnesota, with Texas rounding out the top five.
The state maintains a strong business environment, earning the top spot nationally for its workforce and second place for both its economy and access to capital. Texas's logistics capabilities, including major ports, international airports, rail systems, and highways, contribute to its status as a significant trade and shipping hub. Additionally, a favorable tax environment and consistent corporate investments have kept Texas competitive in the rankings.
However, CNBC pointed out that Texas struggles with livability, ranking 49th out of 50 for Quality of Life due to high crime rates, inadequate healthcare, and a lack of inclusivity. These factors negatively impact the state's overall score, which evaluates all 50 states across ten competitiveness categories.
Despite the drop from second to fourth place, Texas has shown momentum in recent years, moving from sixth in 2023 to second in 2025. The Dallas Regional Chamber reported that North Texas is experiencing a surge in corporate relocations and expansions, with Gunter benefiting from the region's strong workforce and business investment.
The ranking's strengths, a top-rated workforce and business investment, play out across North Texas communities including Gunter.
