Houston's linebacker lineup will change after Henry To'oTo'o was placed on injured reserve before Week 2. To'oTo'o suffered an apparent shoulder injury against Buffalo, leaving during the final quarter and later appearing with a splint. Coach DeMeco Ryans said the absence could be lengthy.
The move was made official Tuesday after Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 and Sports Talk 790 reported Monday night that it was expected. To'oTo'o is projected to miss a few months.
Jake Hansen is expected to start with Pro Bowl linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair. Hansen filled in during the opener, recording seven defensive snaps. He has made four starts and played 391 defensive snaps over his first five NFL seasons.
Wade Woodaz could take the third linebacker role and receive work in the base defense. He had 22 special teams snaps but no defensive snaps against Buffalo, and he is wearing a protective brace after thumb surgery during the preseason.
Seventh-round pick Aidan Fisher could be available in Week 2 after being inactive for the opener, while Jamal Hill could be promoted from the practice squad.
