The Dallas Cowboys have made a backfield change, releasing Israel Abanikanda and adding Tyler Goodson from the Atlanta Falcons. The move opens a roster spot for Goodson and followed Dallas’ 69-yard rushing performance against the New York Giants in Week 1.

Abanikanda appeared in six NFL games, all for the New York Jets during the 2023 season. Before that, the former Pitt running back carried 239 times for 1,431 yards and scored 20 touchdowns in his 2022 college season. He did not secure a regular role during his NFL career before Dallas let him go.

Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said New York’s defensive front affected the running attack early by creating too much penetration. He said Dallas lost the physical battle along the line of scrimmage. Schottenheimer also said Javonte Williams struggled to locate openings at the beginning of the game, although the Cowboys adjusted following halftime. The report was published by sports.yahoo.com.
