Rookie linebacker Jaishawn Barham forced a fumble that Dee Winters recovered inside Washington’s 20-yard line, helping Dallas defeat the Commanders 37-20 at AT&T Stadium. The Cowboys improved to 1-1 after losing 28-20 to the Giants in Week 1. The recovery led to Jake Ferguson’s 12-yard touchdown catch, putting Dallas ahead 27-13 in the third quarter.
Washington gained 389 yards to Dallas’ 332, including a 182-66 advantage on the ground, and held the ball for 31:29. Dallas converted 7 of 11 third downs, did not commit a turnover and took the ball away once. The Cowboys scored four touchdowns and three Brandon Aubrey field goals, including a 60-yarder.
Dak Prescott completed 26 passes for 279 yards and four touchdowns without an interception. Two scoring passes went to Ferguson, while CeeDee Lamb caught eight passes for 153 yards and scored twice. Prescott’s 24-yard touchdown pass to Lamb was the 249th of his career, surpassing Tony Romo’s Cowboys record, according to The Associated Press.
Prescott said the team’s celebration made him emotional. Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels suffered a dislocated left elbow on the final play of the first half, and Dan Quinn said imaging showed no fracture. Marcus Mariota went 11 for 16 for 111 yards and a touchdown.
Dallas next plays Baltimore on Sunday, Sept. 27, at Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro at 3:25 p.m. Central, with the Cowboys designated as the home team.
