The U.S. Postal Service has announced plans for a postage rate increase this summer, pending approval from federal regulators. If approved, the new rates would take effect on July 12 and include a rise in the price of a First-Class Forever stamp from 78 cents to 82 cents.

Additionally, the cost of a metered one-ounce letter would increase from 74 cents to 78 cents, while domestic postcards would see a jump from 61 cents to 65 cents. International postcards and one-ounce international letters would each increase from $1.70 to $1.75. The price for each additional ounce on a single-piece letter will remain at 29 cents.

According to the Postal Service, these increases are necessary to address significant financial challenges and rising operational costs. The agency relies primarily on the sale of postage and services for funding, as it does not receive tax dollars for operational expenses.

This proposed change is part of ongoing efforts by the Postal Service to stabilize its finances through a long-term restructuring plan. Gunter residents and businesses would be subject to the higher rates in July, alongside mailers across the country.

Gunter residents and businesses would pay the higher rates in July, as would mailers nationwide.
