Gunter Shoppers Can Benefit from Texas Tax-Free Weekend for Back-to-School Items

As the new school year approaches, Gunter shoppers will have the opportunity to save during Texas' annual tax-free weekend. Scheduled from August 7 through August 9, 2026, this event allows many back-to-school essentials to be purchased without state and local sales tax, which can total up to 8.25 percent.

Eligible items include most clothing and footwear priced under $100 per item, as well as student backpacks, with a limit of 10 per purchase. A specific list of school supplies that cost less than $100 each also qualifies for the tax exemption. This offer is available for purchases made in Texas stores or online from Texas-based sellers.

However, certain items such as jewelry, handbags, and computers do not qualify for the tax exemption. Additionally, rentals and services for alterations or cleaning are excluded from the promotion. No coupons or exemption certificates are necessary, as the discount is applied automatically at checkout on qualifying purchases.
