Durán and Díaz Power Rangers Past Angels
The Texas Rangers defeated the visiting Los Angeles Angels 5-3 on Sunday, August 23, at Globe Life Field in Arlington. The victory improved the Rangers’ record to 65-66, while the Angels dropped to 52-79. The game featured three total home runs and a strong pitching performance from the Rangers’ starting arm.
Early Run Support Sets Tone
Los Angeles took the field first, as the away team bats in the top of each inning. In the second inning, the Angels built a lead that would hold for most of the game. Durán opened the scoring with a home run to left center, traveling 403 feet.
Shortly after, Freeman tripled to center, allowing O’Hoppe to score. Díaz then hit a sacrifice fly to center, bringing home Freeman to make it 0-3. The Angels added another run in the fifth inning when Díaz homered to left center, a shot that carried 421 feet.
A sacrifice fly by Nimmo to center allowed Seager to score, extending the deficit to 0-5.
Rangers Rally in Late Innings
The Rangers remained scoreless through the first seven innings before igniting their offense in the eighth. Neto launched a home run to left center, covering 418 feet, to cut the lead to three. Lowe followed with a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Ballesteros.
Campero then singled to right, driving in Grissom to narrow the gap to 3-5. Despite the late push, the Rangers could not complete the comeback, and the Angels held on for the win.
Quantrill Anchors Rangers Staff
Cal Quantrill earned the win, pitching six scoreless innings. He allowed six hits and struck out six batters while walking none. His outing was a key factor in keeping the game within reach for the Rangers.
The bullpen provided support, with Chase Silseth recording the save in one-third of an inning without allowing a hit or an earned run. Luke Murphy, Sammy Peralta, and Jose Fermin all pitched one inning for Los Angeles, combining for no earned runs. The final score reflected a competitive contest where the Rangers’ late run attempts were not enough to overcome the early deficit.
