Tar Heels Secure Victory in Dublin
North Carolina defeated the TCU Horned Frogs 15-10 on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026, at Aviva Stadium in Dublin. The visiting Tar Heels claimed the win to open their season with a 1-0 record, while the home TCU squad drops to 0-1.
The game featured a tight contest that saw both teams trade first-quarter points before North Carolina struck in the middle of the second half to take the lead for good.
First Quarter Back-and-Forth
The scoring action began early in the first period. Aeron Burrell kicked a 20-yard field goal for North Carolina to give the Tar Heels a 3-0 lead. TCU responded quickly when Kyle Lemmermann connected on a 31-yard field goal to tie the game at 3-3.
The momentum shifted in the final minutes of the first quarter as Jon Denman rushed for a 2-yard touchdown, followed by a successful kick from Lemmermann. That play put TCU ahead 10-3. However, Jaylen McGill answered with a 9-yard rushing touchdown for North Carolina, followed by a kick from Burrell, bringing the score to a 10-10 tie entering the second quarter.
