Denison, Texas — A year after devastating floods impacted the Texas Hill Country, a community foundation has reported distributing approximately $82 million in recovery assistance to survivors. The Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country, established in 1982 and based in Kerrville, initiated its relief fund on July 4, 2025, coinciding with the flood's onset.

Donations to the fund exceeded $150 million, marking it as one of the largest privately led disaster-recovery initiatives in Texas history.

Foundation CEO Austin Dickson, who personally experienced loss due to the flooding, noted that the anniversary brings a mix of sorrow and hope. The foundation acted swiftly, providing $15 million within 45 days to over 50 local nonprofits that offered direct financial aid and crisis support.

As immediate needs diminished, the focus shifted to long-term recovery, with about one-third of the funds directed toward housing assistance. Approximately 130 families have returned to repaired homes, while 98 households are being transitioned into permanent housing.

Additionally, the foundation has facilitated access to mental health services through local centers, addressing the heightened risk of post-traumatic stress among survivors. To bolster future disaster preparedness, $10 million has been earmarked for a readiness and resilience fund. Although Gunter is located far from the flood zone, the disaster's impact resonated statewide, with contributions pouring in from across Texas.

Nearly half of the funds raised remain available as the recovery effort continues, reflecting the time needed to rebuild communities after such significant devastation.
