Texas A&M coach Mike Elko said Marcel Reed will remain the Aggies’ starting quarterback for now, despite the team’s 35-6 loss to LSU. Texas A&M entered the game ranked No. 23, while LSU was No. 10. Asked if Reed could be benched, Elko replied, “No.” Yahoo Sports reported the exchange, which the TexAgs social media account posted on X.
Reed completed 10 of 26 attempts against LSU, producing 106 yards and one interception. His 38.4% completion rate was identified in the report as potentially the lowest of his college career. Over four games this season, he has thrown for 738 yards, six touchdowns and four interceptions. He has completed 55.4% of his passes, a career-low figure, while rushing for 104 yards and one touchdown.
Reed had a stronger prior season, passing for 3,169 yards and 25 touchdowns. Texas A&M is set to face Arkansas in Week 5. The Razorbacks also are 2-2, and the matchup is scheduled for Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. EST.
