Texas offensive lineman Cole Hutson has received a temporary injunction allowing him to play this season, according to sports.yahoo.com, which cited Chip Brown of Horns247. Judge Maria Cantu Hexel issued the ruling in Austin’s 53rd District Court.
Hutson had been declared ineligible before Texas’ Week 2 matchup with Ohio State. On Sept. 7, coach Steve Sarkisian said Hutson’s situation included a separate NCAA issue that was still being handled. The order does not establish when Hutson will take the field.
It came shortly before Texas’ SEC opener at Tennessee in Knoxville on Saturday, and his status for that game remained unresolved. Sarkisian was set to speak with local media on Thursday and might offer an update.
Texas has continued to get reliable production from both guard spots. Oregon State transfer Dylan Sikorski is the starter at left guard, even though fall-camp expectations had Western Kentucky transfer Laurence Seymore taking that job. During camp, quarterback Arch Manning said Hutson’s return to the team had caught him off guard and that he was glad to have him back.
Offensive guard Brandon Baker said Hutson had been a valued teammate and leader, and that his camp performance was positive.
