As the 2026 football season nears, the Texas Longhorns are reviewing their left guard options under the guidance of head coach Steve Sarkisian and offensive line coach Kyle Flood. Laurence Seymore, a transfer from Western Kentucky, is currently favored to start after being part of the first-team offensive line in the team's initial fall scrimmage.

In addition to Seymore, Texas is considering other candidates for the position. Dylan Sikorski, who transferred from Oregon State, has experience starting six games at left guard last season. Jaydon Chatman is also being evaluated, while Cole Hutson, with over 1,000 career offensive snaps at Texas, provides additional depth.

The coaching staff is not pressured to finalize their decision before the season opener, allowing for continued assessment of the position. Sarkisian noted that successful offensive line performance hinges on more than individual skills, highlighting the importance of communication and chemistry, particularly against opponents.

Sarkisian has stressed the need for continuity on the offensive line to safeguard quarterback Arch Manning. The first scrimmage showcased good cohesion among the first-team offensive line, which rotated through various configurations. If Seymore secures the starting role, Texas can maintain stability, but they have capable alternatives should adjustments be necessary based on performance during games.

This ongoing evaluation demonstrates the depth and strategic planning of the Longhorns as they prepare for the upcoming season.
