The Texas A&M Aggies are grappling with significant setbacks just before their 2026 season opener against Missouri State. Head coach Mike Elko confirmed that running back Tiger Riden Jr. and defensive tackle Chace Sims have both sustained injuries that will keep them out for the entire season.
Riden, who participated in five games last year as a true freshman, had a total of 11 carries resulting in 45 yards and one touchdown. On the other hand, Sims did not play in any games during his freshman season. The specifics of their injuries have not been revealed.
Riden's injury is particularly impactful, as he was anticipated to fulfill an important role as a power running back. At 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing 220 pounds, he brought a level of physicality that the current roster may struggle to replace.
His absence raises concerns about the team's effectiveness in goal-line situations, placing additional pressure on running backs Rueben Owens II and Jamarion Morrow.
With Riden unavailable, true freshman KJ Edwards is expected to step up and take on a more significant role within the running back lineup. Although Owens and Morrow are likely to be the main options, Edwards is anticipated to contribute meaningfully, which could influence the Aggies' performance in crucial moments throughout the season.
