The Houston Texans are re-signing Dare Ogunbowale to their 53-man roster before Week 4, ahead of a home matchup with the Dallas Cowboys. The move follows a short stay with the Las Vegas Raiders and gives Houston four running backs.
Ogunbowale played for the Texans from 2022 through 2025, appearing in more than 60 games. His primary role was on special teams, where he totaled more than 1,000 snaps over those four seasons. He also had 91 rushing attempts for 295 yards and three touchdowns. Ogunbowale was a team captain last season, and coach DeMeco Ryans has repeatedly praised him, according to the report.
David Montgomery and Woody Marks are expected to handle most of the offensive snaps, while British Brooks could remain ahead of Ogunbowale in the weekly order. The reason for the signing was not clear.
Houston may be preparing for a possible injury, although Week 4 player injury information was not expected until after Wednesday's practice, or it may have wanted an experienced depth player who can help on special teams. Sports Illustrated reported that Ogunbowale provides leadership and special-teams experience, even if his offensive role stays limited.
