The Houston Texans have added defensive end Chris Braswell to their practice squad. Recently released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Braswell had a two-season stint with the team.
A highly regarded five-star recruit in high school, he played at Alabama, where he achieved eight sacks and ten tackles for loss, stepping in as the Jack linebacker after Will Anderson Jr. His performance ranked second on the team, just behind Dallas Turner, who was picked 17th overall in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Braswell's NFL career has not mirrored his college success, as he was drafted in the second round by Tampa Bay but did not secure a starting role, totaling only two and a half sacks over his two years. His release followed a lack of production and a limited pass rush strategy, compounded by missed time in the preseason and competition from teammates.
In Houston, Braswell will join former Alabama teammate Will Anderson Jr. and Logan Hall, who also played with the Buccaneers. As the Texans currently face injury challenges in their defensive line, there is a chance he may soon move up to the active roster.
Transitioning to Houston's 4-3 defensive scheme will require him to adjust his playstyle, focusing on edge-setting and pass rushing, as the team aims to strengthen their defensive depth with Braswell backing up Dominique Robinson, Sebastian Harsh, and Jadeveon Clowney.
