The Houston Texans have lost another linebacker ahead of their Week 3 matchup with the Indianapolis Colts. Jake Hummel was placed on injured reserve after missing six straight practices because of a groin injury from the previous game against Cincinnati.
NFL injured reserve requires him to sit out at least four games, including Houston’s Week 4 home meeting with the Dallas Cowboys and road games against Tennessee and Jacksonville in London.
The move leaves Houston with four linebackers either on injured reserve or the physically unable to perform list before the season reaches its third game. E.J. Speed has a major offseason quad injury that could sideline him throughout 2026.
K.C. Ossai opened the season on injured reserve, while Henry To’oTo’o went there after a shoulder injury during the fourth quarter of the Texans’ Week 1 game against Buffalo.
Hummel has mostly worked on special teams and has 150 career defensive snaps. The active roster now includes Azeez Al-Shaair, Jake Hansen, Jamal Hill, Wade Woodaz and Aiden Fisher. Houston recently elevated Hill from its practice squad.
