The Houston Texans have received encouraging news about offensive tackle Braden Smith, who is anticipated to be sidelined for several weeks because of a plantar fascia injury in his foot. This information follows an injury scare that occurred during a joint practice with the Carolina Panthers, as reported by KPRC 2's Aaron Wilson on August 27.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport confirmed that while the injury raises concerns, it is not deemed severe and should not lead to a lengthy absence. According to Sleeper's Jacob Barzilla, the Texans will likely require Smith's services at some point this season.
Smith joined the Texans this offseason on a two-year deal valued at $20 million, with the intention of stepping into the starting right tackle role. However, his injury contributes to the uncertainty regarding the team's offensive line. ESPN's Adam Schefter noted that Smith may be out for a few weeks, which is a better scenario than more serious options.
The team may not need to rush his return, as Trent Brown, a former Pro Bowl player, is currently filling in at right tackle, and Blake Fisher has shown promise this preseason.
Updates regarding Smith's recovery and the overall situation of the Texans' offensive line are expected as the season nears.
