The Houston Texans have strengthened their roster during training camp with key signings, including former No. 1 overall pick Jadeveon Clowney and defensive lineman Mario Edwards. However, the team has not significantly altered its wide receiver unit, choosing to depend on younger players already present on the roster.
As the regular season nears, the Texans' prospects for acquiring a notable wide receiver appear to be diminishing. Recent free agency has seen top talents like Deebo Samuel, Stefon Diggs, and Keenan Allen join other teams, leaving Houston with limited options.
Tyreek Hill remains unsigned, but questions surrounding his recovery from a torn ACL injury render a potential signing unlikely. Other available receivers, such as Curtis Samuel, Brandin Cooks, Tyler Lockett, and DeAndre Hopkins, might not greatly enhance the Texans' current depth chart.
The Texans may opt to stick with their existing wide receiver lineup, featuring players like Nico Collins, who could emerge as the primary target, and Jayden Higgins, who might serve as the second option. Additionally, contributors like Jaylin Noel and Xavier Hutchinson are anticipated, while a healthy Tank Dell could also make an impact.
Despite not securing a major signing, the Texans' front office seems assured in their current wide receiver roster. With more than $20 million in cap space available, they retain the ability to make adjustments if needed. However, the chances of bringing in another significant wide receiver prior to the season appear slim.
