As the Houston Texans gear up for their 2026 regular season, they have announced four players to serve as captains for the team. This year’s selections include quarterback C.J. Stroud, defensive end Will Anderson, linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair, and defensive back Jalen Pitre, who will take on the captaincy for the first time.
The change in leadership comes after the departure of veteran running back Dare Ogunbowale, who was a captain last season and is now a free agent following his release from the Las Vegas Raiders. Wide receiver Nico Collins, who also held a captain role last year, is the only captain from the previous season not returning.
Head coach DeMeco Ryans highlighted the significance of leadership in the team, showcasing the positive culture he has developed since starting in 2023. The Texans have prioritized acquiring players recognized for their leadership skills, including safety Reed Blankenship, signed from the Philadelphia Eagles, along with several draft picks who were captains during their college careers.
Each of the four captains has a minimum of three years of experience with the Texans, with Pitre being the most tenured, entering his fifth season. Their leadership will be on display during the Texans' first game against the Bills, set for 12 p.m. CT on Sunday, September 13th.
