The Houston Texans have added defensive tackle Junior Tafuna to their practice squad, as confirmed on social media on September 2, 2026. This signing marks Tafuna's return to the Texans, where he previously played in his rookie season after going undrafted in 2025.

Tafuna was released by the Texans on August 5 and was subsequently claimed by the New York Jets. However, he was among the players cut during the Jets' roster adjustments. Now back in Houston, he is anticipated to provide additional depth for a team with Super Bowl aspirations.

While at the University of Utah, Tafuna achieved impressive statistics, including 108 combined tackles and 7.5 sacks throughout four seasons. He also recorded 15 tackles for loss, three fumble recoveries, two interceptions, and one forced fumble. Analysts have remarked that although Tafuna may not possess all the ideal characteristics for interior defenders, his athleticism could attract interest from teams.

NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein noted that he is tough at the point of attack and can handle double-teams, though he has a limited margin for error. Updates regarding Tafuna's performance and his role with the Texans will be forthcoming as the season unfolds.
