TCU Athletics has reinstated media credentials for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, concluding a dispute that arose after coverage of a locker room incident. The university announced the restoration of access on September 4, following productive discussions between both parties.
The conflict began after a report by Star-Telegram reporter Steven Johnson on August 18, which detailed tensions within the locker room and alleged a lack of intervention from coaches. The article indicated that head coach Sonny Dykes was not aware of the severity of the situation among players.
TCU officials had previously revoked the newspaper's access, citing threats made against sophomore receiver Dozie Ezukanma, who was involved in an altercation with safety Jacob Fields.
The incident occurred on August 13, when Ezukanma claimed in an Instagram video that Fields punched him, causing him to lose consciousness. A report indicated that Fields was dismissed from the team, and he later turned himself in to Tarrant County police on August 30, facing charges of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury. He was released after posting a $50,000 bond.
During the credential revocation, Johnson covered TCU's season opener from the stands in Dublin, Ireland.
