TCU is actively seeking a new starting quarterback after Josh Hoover's unexpected transfer to Indiana, the reigning national champions. Hoover's exit follows a regular season in which TCU achieved an 8-4 record, a season that had initially generated optimism for a strong push toward the Big 12 championship and the NFL draft.
Before Hoover's decision, TCU's personnel team had already started identifying potential quarterback candidates, not foreseeing his transfer. General manager Ryan Dorchester mentioned that Hoover was viewed as an essential player for the upcoming season, and there was no anticipation of his departure from Fort Worth. However, they began evaluating quarterbacks as a backup plan in case he chose to enter the NFL draft.
The Horned Frogs are specifically targeting an upperclassman with one year of eligibility left, as they consider high school signee Adam Schobel to be their long-term solution at quarterback. Following the confirmation of Hoover's transfer, TCU acted quickly to sign Jaden Craig, a former zero-star recruit who had performed well at Harvard for two seasons.
Dorchester first identified Craig while analyzing film of a previous Harvard receiver and praised Craig's efficiency, decisiveness, and strong arm.
Although Hoover had a commendable season, he did not generate notable interest from NFL scouts, leading TCU's coaching staff to believe he would stay with the team. However, head coach Sonny Dykes observed a shift in Hoover's mindset as the season concluded, suggesting a transfer was a possibility.
