The Dallas Cowboys have signed DeSoto native Von Miller to a one-year contract valued at $5.5 million, which could rise to $7.5 million through performance incentives. Miller, a former Texas A&M standout, expressed excitement about joining his hometown team.
At 37, Miller remains a formidable player, having recorded nine sacks in 2025. His career highlights include two Super Bowl victories, seven All-Pro selections, and eight Pro Bowl appearances, enhancing the Cowboys' outside linebacker (OLB) depth.
Analysts suggest that while Miller's signing may not be the major trade anticipated to improve the pass rush, he is expected to strengthen the OLB position. The Cowboys are projected to have six OLBs on their 53-man roster, with two more on the practice squad.
The expected starters are Rashan Gary and Donovan Ezeiruaku, with Miller and Malachi Lawrence as key backups. James Houston is likely to secure a roster spot due to his contributions last season, especially on special teams. The competition for the final OLB position includes Sam Williams and Marist Liufau, with Liufau potentially holding an advantage due to his versatility and special teams performance last year.
The anticipated OLB depth chart features Gary, Ezeiruaku, Lawrence, Miller, Houston, and Liufau.
