The New England Patriots have made a notable roster change by sending wide receiver Kayshon Boutte to the Houston Texans. In return, the Patriots received Jaylen Reed and a seventh-round draft pick for 2028.
At 24 years old, Boutte faced stiff competition for playing time after the Patriots added AJ Brown and Romeo Doubs to their receiving lineup. Other players in the mix include DeMario Douglas, Mack Hollins, Kyle Williams, and Efton Chism, which limited Boutte's chances on the field.
Head coach Mike Vrabel stated that the trade would provide Boutte with a better opportunity to play with the Texans instead of remaining on the sidelines in New England. He mentioned the depth at the wide receiver position, indicating that this move was likely advantageous for everyone involved.
Without injuries to teammates, Boutte might have continued to be inactive due to his limited role on special teams.
Last season, Boutte participated in 14 games, achieving 33 receptions for 551 yards and a career-high of six touchdowns. Vrabel acknowledged the difficulty of the decision to trade Boutte, praising his positive demeanor and development as a player. As Boutte joins the Texans, he is anticipated to serve as a backup behind established starters Nico Collins, Xavier Hutchinson, and Jaylin Noel.
