The Houston Texans have bolstered their roster by acquiring wide receiver Kayshon Boutte from the New England Patriots. In return, the Texans have traded safety Jaylen Reed along with a seventh-round selection in the 2028 NFL Draft to New England.
This trade comes as the Texans look to strengthen their receiving corps following the season-ending injury to Jayden Higgins, who tore his ACL during a joint practice with the Raiders on August 19.
Higgins had a productive rookie season, catching 41 passes for 525 yards and scoring six touchdowns, but will now concentrate on his recovery, leading the Texans to seek further depth behind Pro Bowler Nico Collins.
Boutte, who was drafted in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, played in 29 games for the Patriots over the last two seasons, achieving over 500 receiving yards each year. He recorded three touchdown catches in 2024 and six in 2025, contributing to the Patriots' AFC title and their appearance in Super Bowl 60.
However, his playing time decreased this offseason following the Patriots' acquisition of AJ Brown and the signing of Romeo Doubs.
