The University of Houston's football program has announced that Shadre Hurst, an offensive guard, has been named to the Preseason AP All-American First-Team. This announcement was made public on Tuesday, reflecting Hurst's outstanding contributions and performance on the field.
Earlier this month, Hurst also made the Preseason Watch Lists for the Lombardi Trophy and the Outland Trophy. He has a previous connection with head coach Willie Fritz and offensive line coach Eman Naghavi from their time together at Tulane, where Hurst achieved All-American honors and was recognized in the All-AAC.
Hurst has shown remarkable skill, achieving an 80.0 pass block grade since 2023, placing him second among active FBS offensive linemen. Over more than 1,200 passing snaps, he has permitted just one sack, demonstrating his effectiveness and reliability. In 2025, he was acknowledged as the highest graded offensive lineman in the American Athletic Conference and ranked sixth nationally among guards by Pro Football Focus (PFF).
During his time at Tulane, he played a crucial role in winning three conference titles from 2022 to 2025, maintaining an impressive record of only one sack allowed throughout four seasons.
The Cougars will kick off their college football season on September 5, hosting Oregon State at TDECU Stadium, with the game starting at 11 a.m.
