The Houston Texans have finalized a trade to acquire Kayshon Boutte from the New England Patriots. In this deal, the Texans provided a seventh-round draft pick along with safety Jayden Reed to New England. This move comes after the injury of second-year receiver Jayden Higgins, who sustained a torn ACL during practice.
Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans discussed the significance of Boutte's addition during a joint practice with the Carolina Panthers. He emphasized Boutte's potential to enhance the team's offense, particularly in light of Higgins' absence. "Adding Kayshon is a big get for us," Ryans remarked, noting Boutte's experience against the Texans in prior games.
Boutte, selected in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, has shown consistent performance throughout his tenure with the Patriots. During the 2025 season, he achieved 33 receptions for 551 yards and six touchdowns, contributing to the team's Super Bowl run.
This achievement marked his second straight season with more than 30 catches and 500 receiving yards, while also seeing a significant increase in his touchdown totals.
The Texans aim to fill Higgins' role with Boutte, who is anticipated to work alongside Nico Collins as a capable outside receiver. Ryans expressed hope for Boutte's growth, highlighting his youth and potential for further development. The team's passing offense is expected to benefit from Boutte's proven abilities as they move forward this season.
