The Dallas Cowboys have completed a trade sending offensive tackle Nate Thomas to the Houston Texans. In return, the Cowboys received a seventh-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft.
Nate Thomas, who is 25 years old, was drafted by the Cowboys in the seventh round of the 2024 draft after playing college football at Louisiana. He spent his rookie season on injured reserve but participated in all 17 games of the 2025 season, starting in four of those contests.
While he mainly played as a left tackle, he also served as a swing tackle during his time with the team.
During the offseason, Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer mentioned that Thomas would compete with teammate Tyler Guyton for the starting left tackle role. However, as training camp progressed, Schottenheimer indicated that Guyton would remain with the first-team offense due to Thomas's inconsistent performance.
To strengthen their offensive line, the Cowboys have also acquired Broderick Jones from the Pittsburgh Steelers, who is capable of playing both left and right tackle. Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones has stated that the team has a plan for their offensive tackle situation as they approach the roster cutdown deadline.
