Baylor will be without quarterback DJ Lagway for its Week 2 game against Prairie View A&M, with Nate Bennett set to make his first college start, according to Pete Thamel. Lagway sustained a high-ankle sprain in the Bears’ 17-16 loss to Auburn but stayed on the field after the injury.
Lagway completed 27 of 54 passes for 333 yards, two touchdowns and one interception against Auburn. Earlier in the week, Baylor coach Dave Aranda had called the quarterback day to day. On3 reported Lagway had been trying to play through the injury but was considered doubtful for the Prairie View A&M matchup.
Baylor reached the end zone in the closing seconds against Auburn, then missed a two-point try that would have produced a win. The defeat put the Bears at 0-1, and it was not clear whether Lagway’s condition influenced the decision to attempt two points. Baylor is scheduled to host Louisiana Tech next weekend and open Big 12 play against Colorado on Sept. 26.
