Baylor will turn to its remaining defensive linemen for larger roles after Devonte Tezino sustained a leg injury in the Bears’ victory over Prairie View A&M. The defensive tackle is out for the rest of the season, creating a depth challenge for a unit that entered the year viewed as one of Baylor’s strengths.

Braylen Jackson could see an expanded role, particularly against the run. Coach Dave Aranda called Jackson a physical player and said his run defense gives Baylor confidence. Jackson has already contributed in that area.

Tezino had recorded two sacks against Auburn, and Aranda had named him among the team’s top performers at defensive tackle after the season opener. Aranda also said Baylor would miss the effort Tezino invested in developing that level of performance.

The Bears were already without senior safety and defensive leader Jacob Redding, who suffered a torn ACL before the Auburn opener. Tezino’s absence now leaves Baylor’s defensive line to handle greater responsibilities for the remainder of the schedule.
