Joe Milton showcased his skills in the Dallas Cowboys' 34-13 win against the Arizona Cardinals, furthering his bid for the backup quarterback position. Milton's performance included two touchdown passes and a rushing score, as he competes with Sam Howell for the No. 2 spot behind Dak Prescott.

Milton was efficient, completing 9 of 13 passes for 176 yards. His highlights included a 53-yard touchdown pass to Jonathan Mingo and a 70-yard completion to Camden Brown, which set up a 1-yard touchdown run by Milton himself. Coach Brian Schottenheimer noted Milton's impressive play but reminded that the competition remains open, stating, "This is long from over."

By halftime, the Cowboys had established a 24-6 advantage, aided by Jaydon Blue's 75 rushing yards on 15 carries. Howell, who started all 17 games for Washington in 2023, was 7 of 10 for 65 yards in the second half but threw an interception in the end zone.

Defensively, the Cowboys made an early impact with cornerback Shavon Revel intercepting a pass from Gardner Minshew, leading to an early touchdown. The Cardinals faced setbacks, including two touchdowns nullified by penalties on receiver Rivaldo Fairweather. Coach Mike LaFleur remarked on the team's overall struggles, indicating it reflected their week.

Injuries were also a concern, with Cardinals safety Dadrion Taylor-Demerson leaving due to rib issues and Cowboys safety Julius Wood exiting with a concussion during the third quarter. Milton's performance highlights his potential as he continues to fight for a spot on the Cowboys' roster as training camp progresses.
