In the Texas U.S. Senate race, both candidates have introduced plans aimed at improving affordability ahead of the general election on Nov. 3. Gunter, located about 46 miles north of Dallas, is among the areas that could be affected by these proposals.

Republican nominee Ken Paxton, the state's attorney general, was the first to announce his plan, titled Protecting the Texas Promise. This proposal includes a deduction of $25,000 for health insurance premiums and out-of-pocket medical costs. Additionally, it offers a $50,000 deduction for first-time homebuyers and another $50,000 for down payments on new primary residences.

Paxton's plan also aims to enhance the federal child tax credit, raising it to $4,400 for each child under 17, while making the tax-deferred investment accounts for children permanent.

On the other hand, Democratic nominee James Talarico has released his plan called the New American Dream. Talarico's approach focuses on wage increases, debt relief, and the elimination of certain tax breaks for high earners, which he claims would shift $1 trillion towards the middle class. His proposals include universal childcare, a raised minimum wage, and expanded overtime pay.

Talarico has also suggested measures to cancel medical debt and regulate costs imposed by hospitals and insurance companies.

As the race progresses, polling averages indicate Talarico holds a slight lead. However, both candidates' plans require congressional approval and lack detailed cost estimates.
