The City of Gunter will hold a public meeting on September 17, 2026, at 6 p.m. to vote on the proposed tax rate for the 2026 tax year. The meeting is scheduled to take place at the Gunter Public Safety Building, located at 105 N. 4th St., Gunter, TX 75058.
According to the city’s announcement, the proposed tax rate is greater than the no-new-revenue tax rate. The no-new-revenue rate is defined as the tax rate for the 2026 tax year that would raise the same amount of property tax revenue for the City of Gunter from the same properties as in the 2025 tax year.
Because the proposed rate exceeds this threshold, the city is proposing to increase property taxes for the 2026 tax year.
The announcement also defines the voter-approval rate as the highest tax rate the City of Gunter may adopt without holding an election to seek voter approval of the rate. Residents are invited to attend the meeting to participate in the vote on the proposed rate.
A PDF of the Notice of Meeting to Vote on Tax Rate is available for viewing or download on the city’s website. This notice follows a related announcement for a public hearing on the proposed budget, also scheduled for September 17.
Other recent city updates include a burn ban in effect through September 30, scheduled water system maintenance that may result in low or no water, and a closure of Bounds Road to through traffic.
