A large crowd gathered at Gunter High School for a town hall meeting focused on the impacts of rapid growth in the city. Grayson County Commissioners Lindsay Wright and Josh Marr joined Gunter ISD Superintendent Dr. Brandon Enos to discuss infrastructure, taxation, and educational planning.
Commissioner Wright, who represents Precinct 3, explained that she and Commissioner Marr share jurisdiction over Gunter. She stated the joint appearance was intended to educate residents in both precincts about current county operations. Marr, representing Precinct 1, highlighted transportation as a primary concern due to heavy commercial truck traffic passing through the area.
He noted that officials are actively working on widening certain roads to accommodate increasing traffic volumes.
Property taxes and road conditions were central topics of discussion among attendees worried about how the city is managing its expansion. The commissioners emphasized the need for ongoing dialogue with residents as development projects proceed. Wright encouraged community members to contact her directly regarding their specific situations, stating she cannot assist without knowing the details of individual cases.
On the education front, Gunter ISD outlined plans to alleviate overcrowding in existing facilities. The district’s master plan includes the construction of an early childhood learning center, which officials hope to open next year. Dr. Enos confirmed that students from pre-kindergarten through second grade will attend this new facility, freeing up space in other schools for the growing student population.
