A travel softball organization with 100 teams across 15 states does much of its training on a nearly 25-acre property in Gunter known as The Halo.

The Texas Glory organization uses the complex for program workouts, training and meetings, according to a facility profile published Oct. 8 by Line Drive Media, a softball news site that toured the property in September. Founder Kevin Shelton heads the club.

Shelton told the site that when he brings teams to Gunter, the first reaction is usually about how remote it feels. "First they complain about how isolated and far away it is," he said, "but once they get here, they get it."

A church and senior home, repurposed

The property was once a church combined with a senior residence that offered independent living for older adults needing memory care. Texas Glory now shares it with Doulin's Dodgers, a baseball program that takes turns using the space, including the batting cages.

Indoors, two buildings of roughly 15,000 square feet each hold batting and pitching cages, 22 in all according to the profile. The complex also has a weight room and a meeting and dining room that looks out over the outdoor fields.

Outside, three and a half turf workout fields sit a short walk from a lake, along with a picnic area for families. One field is equipped with Smart technology that measures the speed of pitched and batted balls and tracks workout data in real time.

During the September visit, Texas Glory 14U head coach Mariah Montgomery Haygood ran a hitting workout at the cages.
