Gunter ISD's finances have turned a corner over the past 15 months, according to figures Superintendent Brandon Enos shared with families this week.
In a letter in the district's October Tiger Times newsletter, Enos listed three measures:
- Credit rating. S&P Global rated the district A with a negative outlook in June 2025. The newsletter says that by September 2026 the rating had moved to "A positive," which the district calls a two-level increase in about 15 months.
- State financial accountability. The district's score in the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas, the Texas Education Agency's annual check on school district financial management, rose from 77 to 92, earning a "Superior Achievement" rating.
- Cash on hand. Operating reserves grew from enough to cover 27 days of expenses in July 2025 to 110 days in September 2026. The district noted that the new level is above the 90-day minimum the state recommends.
Enos credited Chief Financial Officer Alyce Greer for the turnaround.
The same letter announced a new Regional Pathway Excellence Partnership with Howe ISD, Grayson College and the Region 10 Education Service Center. The districts plan to share career and technical education programs so students can reach advanced and industry-level courses their own campus may not offer. Heather Hale and the district's Learning and Innovation Department are leading the effort.
